U.S.— Churches have mastered the art of the live-streamed service, effectively bringing worship and teaching to millions of quarantined families across America.
But they aren’t stopping there.
Innovative churches everywhere have created another avenue for Christian fellowship: the live-stream potluck. Now church members can gaze upon ultra-high-definition images of Barbara Benson’s tuna noodle casserole and Miss Betty’s famous jello salad from the comfort of their own living rooms.
Premium-level tithers will even be treated to exclusive live footage of the pastor and his family eating a smorgasbord of delicious casseroles.
“It’s the next best thing to sharing a meal with my fellow church members in person,” said local deacon Jeff Smothers. “You really need to crank up the surround sound for the best effect. That will ensure you catch every crunch and lip smack. Makes it more realistic.”
Many churches offer a unique spin on this new service. Elevation Church is offering a live-stream that will allow you to join Steven Furtick as he downs an entire jug of creatine and 500 grams of protein powder. Redeemer Presbyterian will allow you to live vicariously through Tim Keller as he eats a very sensible, mature, and healthy meal with just the right amount of calories. There’s something for everyone!
The only person not enthused about this new live stream service is the church sound guy. “I didn’t sign up for this,” he sighed while holding a giant boom mic over the pastor’s head as he devoured Edith Bertolli’s famous lasagna.
