WHEATON, IL—Crossway Publishing has announced its latest big giveaway, this time sending a free copy of John Piper to five lucky winners. While previous contests have given entrants a chance to win ESV Bibles, popular Crossway reference materials, and even books by John Piper, this is the first time the publishing company has offered up authentic copies of one of its most popular authors.
Asking potential winners to simply complete a brief survey indicating how much they would be willing to pay for copies of various pastors and theologians delivered right to their door, the giveaway form on the website was under heavy web traffic most of Thursday morning.
“This would be a dream come true for our family,” pastor’s wife Judy Bernardo posted on the PuritanBoard discussion forum, one of the many internet hubs buzzing about the giveaway. “My husband is always hogging our computer to watch the latest ‘Ask Pastor John’ or ‘Look at the Book’ video, so it would be great to just lock the two of them in the study and let the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Spirit-empowered, Bible-saturated, mission-mobilizing, justice-pursuing, death-defying Christian hedonism happen.” Other posters on the forum were similarly delighted at the prospect of having their very own John Piper, wishing each other “good sovereignty” in the contest.
The copies of John Piper will be delivered within 4–6 weeks of the close of the contest, according to Crossway’s press release, and come with a beige jacket and expanded margins on both sides of the author and pastor for easier notation. Entrants are advised that Crossway bears no liability for an immediate and persistent desire to glorify God by being satisfied in Him while poring over the life of Jonathan Edwards, a sudden aversion to collecting sea shells, or any damage to personal property as a result of wild, vigorous hand gestures.
Future giveaways are rumored to include deluxe editions of D. A. Carson and study versions of Sam Storms, according to sources.
