U.S.—Pay attention, fantasy moguls, because this may change your strategy: the vast majority of online fantasy leagues are now offering 50 points per player who kneels during the national anthem, causing a wide upset in the valuation of fantasy players and a sudden increase in support for the NFL players’ ongoing protests.
A player who raises a fist during the national anthem will immediately score 12 fantasy points, while a successful take-a-knee maneuver will generate a whopping 50 points for a fantasy owner. The new rules took effect for all the major online fantasy front-ends, such as ESPN, Yahoo!, and NFL.com.
“You’re going to want to pick up players who refuse to stand for the USA’s national anthem,” ESPN commentator Buck Sanders said Friday. “This is going to throw a lot of rankings way out of whack.”
“Pick up players with a strong emphasis in social justice, and you’re sure to blow away your opponents this Sunday,” Sanders added.
Polls suggested an overwhelming change in the number of Americans who expressed their support for the NFL players protesting system racism based solely on the large amount of points they now stand to gain in their weekly matchups.
“This could turn my whole season around,” one fantasy owner told reporters. “While before I was a little disgruntled at the protests, I now fully support the rights of my fellow Americans to protest in whatever way they feel is best—especially this weekend, because I’m going up against a guy who’s already 4 and 1, and I really need a win to turn my season around.”
“Thank God for the right to free speech,” he added.
