SANFORD, FL—At the annual Ligonier Ministries summer kick-off party, staffers are encouraged to let their hair down and cut loose for “a fun, wild time of fellowship and festivities.” But a young staff member named Noah Edwards went just a little too far, removing his double-breasted blazer shortly after the caviar hors d’oeuvres were served.
Horrified eyewitnesses watched as Edwards lewdly stripped down to a scantily clad outfit consisting of only his dress shoes, dress pants, dress shirt, and tie.
Through tears, Edwards recounted the events that led up to his flagrant rules violation. “I—I just thought I could get away with it in the pool. Spirits were high and I made a bad judgment call. As the Scriptures say, ‘Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.'” Witnesses claim consuming large quantities of lemon-flavored water may have contributed to Edwards’ faux pas.
According to a statement released by Ligonier shortly after the scandal—being dubbed “Blazergate” by news media—broke, Edwards has been formally censured and removed from the Ligonier organization, and will be asked to seek restoration with his local presbytery before pursuing any further ministry opportunities with either Ligonier or his PCA denomination.
“My road to recovery will be long. I only pray the Ligonier team can one day count me as a restored brother in the Lord,” Edwards wrote on his blog. “Soli Deo gloria.”
