COLORADO SPRINGS, CO—October 3 will be this year’s Bring Your Bible to School Day, an event created by Focus on the Family that encourages students to bring their copy of the Scriptures to classes with them.
An endorsement of the event from NFL quarterback Drew Brees created a media frenzy, and brought the annual tradition into the spotlight for both supporters and detractors. Through this and other marketing campaigns, the news has even spread into the homeschool community, and many of its bravest families are jumping on board.
“I’m definitely going to let all fourteen of my students know about this,” said mom and homeschooler Harriet Flank. “I think they’ll really embrace it.”
Homeschooled students everywhere are accepting the challenge and expecting it to bolster their faith. “I may get mocked and bullied, but knowing that other kids around the country are doing the same thing gives me the courage to bring my Bible,” said 12-year-old homeschooler Mitchell Franklin.
Focus on the Family president Jim Daly said he’s surprised and encouraged by the home-educators’ involvement. “We didn’t exactly have homeschools in mind when we designed the event, but, hey, numbers are numbers, right?”
According to reports, many homeschooled students are also very excited about Bring Your Parent to School Day.
