VANDALIA, OH—Beloved worship leader Carl "Take it to the Bridge" Hudson was rushed to the hospital Sunday morning after his face got stuck in a passionate expression while leading the congregation in praise.
As Hudson transitioned to the bridge of "What a Beautiful Name" and began to belt out "Death could not hold you!" his face contorted itself into a pained, emotional pose. This expression stayed on his face for the rest of the song, with no one aware that anything was amiss.
But when he kept the expression on his face throughout the greeting time, sermon, closing worship time, and potluck, people at Firefaith Church began to realize something was wrong.
"He usually holds that face for no longer than a few minutes," said the pastor, who called 911. "Unless he has to use the restroom or something. So it looked like there was definitely some kind of medical issue here."
Paramedics quickly arrived and rushed Hudson to the ER, where he was diagnosed with Resting Worship Face. His treatment plan will include medication, minor surgery, and listening to some good, old-fashioned hymns that do not have emotional bridges.
Experts estimate that over 4,000 worship leaders per year are hospitalized after making passionate expressions and then getting their face stuck.
"It's a serious problem," said one medical expert. "Make sure to use songs with high-octave bridges sparingly."
